I’m really impressed with the R3—it rarely lets me down when capturing what I want. Even this shot, taken in a dark area with a background change, turned out great!

– As the tour was coming to an end and we prepared to head back to town, we made a few stops for this bird. Shortly after, we were rewarded with an excellent view of a female.

– With the new Canon R1’s Continuous Pre-recording feature, every time the bird perches, I half-press the shutter to keep it in focus. – one of the main target, but know it is “feeding spot” it make we not worry of this bird to be photograph. after first night failed of owling, everyone seem tired next day and choose to go the “station”. When we arrive just after <30minute drive from ours hotel and walk less than 5 minutes, the local who manage the “hide” say bird already seen so immediate everyone getting ready the “big lens and camera”. without long wait we have very good view and picture but very quick one than stay near bush for quite some time before 2nd appearance and after 2nd round it stay nearby and I got this picture which I think I prefer this instead perfect view 😀

– ours 2nd target of the day after the beautiful Pitta. very soon we stop we heard and spot the bird and the bird around for almost whole day while we looking for other bird. It still around calling and appeal

few close friends asking to work out new CANON RF200800mm lens with few camera … as the lens balance between weight, and light so it is F9 at 800mm and make many of us worry, how it perform in Rainforest.
Before I have the lens and other camera to work on, I already comment to them it work well with CANON R3 !!! but it is expensive camera with this lens … and it may not work really balance Investment-Performance .. than I am highly recommend to many CANON R6mark2 with really good ISO performance, AF performance

Again this is another reason setup customize button for my R3 which can shoot in complex environment (just like this) point the focus points (I using 5 point) on to any part of the bird and eye will be lock focus ..very useful and suitable for people like shooting wildbird in move

– another lucky moment on the same tree after Great Iora, Banded Bay Cuckoo, Black and Yellow Broadbill, Large Woodshrike.. this bird feeding on the same tree make us busy and spend some morning energy to chase this bird.
– the only day we at Horton Plains NP, rain in the whole morning. We almost this endemic but found it very last moment while we leaving and we had ours late lunch because of this bird

– ours last year bird Photography trip, very misty day and found this bird moving fast .. lovely bird to be photograph

– no one can explain how excited we were when we got this super good view of this bird after 2 full morning waiting and this beautiful bird give us amazing view at the “not common” spot
– one of ours main target, but missed the night and morning version on day1. But got it on day 2 for both night and day version. It really look like Bornean Frogmouth with “short” tailed
– I am checking whats bird in the bird wave, this bird sudden fly down and feed infront of me just 10 feet away. when view close it look beautiful instead
– a very casual birding day with buddies, a pair of minivet seem very active near a fruiting tree. a CANON R7 with CANON RF200800 need quite a lot of effort on overcast day ..

let’s me share my experience over last 2 weeks fully use at cold weather, light rain (7C-15C) at Taiwan and raining, muddy .. dark environment at West Sumatra

2. 800mm zoom at 2kg .. Good focal length + weight
Long is good but it have to come with some compensation … longer focal length mean more shutter speed require —> higher ISO
so please do not complain why why why last time 150600 or 200600 or any 500mm I can shoot 1/100 but now cannot get sharp picture ..
2KG is good for me to handle almost whole day with tripod or without tripod .. but may not for all … so go have a try … for me the “length” is the complaint it is clumsy to carry around !!!! but it is 200-800mm what are you expect ? 10cm !!!
3. F9 at 800mm !!!! what F9 !!! so dark how !
Yes .. it is dark .. so have to accept high ISO or stable tripod+head require

HANDHELD .. with R3 … I am good with 1/160s with >50% success hit rate

F9 Handheld … even 1/160 normally in Rainforest most of the time I am shooting ISO6400-16000 !!!! so be ready
F9 Travel Tripod and Fluidhead … even 1/30 normally in Rainforest most of the time I am shooting ISO1600-8000 !!!!
*** so those shooting with R7 .. be ready to have even higher ISO as you need faster shutter speed for both “longer focal Length” + “high megapixel”
4. Image quality how ? …. all manufacturers lens dont think any still be complaint about sharpness .. but I really hope we know sharpness and clarity
