– new month, new group… another great parent all the way come here with their children for Birding – hobby (the kid just 12 years old) .. a hit and miss morning but in the end of the session, we managed to have this not so common and beautiful Hornbill as last bird of the day.
– 新的一个月，新的一组。不是第一次看到爸爸/妈妈陪孩子来观/拍鸟。这一次爸爸妈妈让儿子暑假过的有意思点。陪儿子来这拍鸟。虽然12岁可是，还是很不错，也会做功课。运气还是可以，虽然早上某些目标鸟错过了。可是还是拍到很不错。2种犀鸟，3种啄木鸟，2种阔嘴鸟，1种猛禽，1种翠鸟等。还要加上这么一只不普通+漂亮的犀鸟。

– honor to try out the new CANON R5mii, most of us really wish firmware upgrade for R5marki for better AF features. but we know while the markii launch mean the hope will fall on the new R5markii. Yes, the AF improve dramatically, it have AF function like R3, R7, R6markii with add on of new feature too.
– this bird fly quite low and any direction, I track it quite well too
what I like
i. animal detect, eye detection now included for single point, 5 points, any zone and also full area
ii. add on new focus area which disable all animal detect !!! it back to old AF method “point AF” .. very useful for condition for the camera difficult to detect the animal !!!
iii. the animal detect simply awesome, it pick up the animal so fast even at complex environment.. hope I can share more soon
iv. tracking is good too, even it is nothing compare to new R1 .. and may R3 (may be so use to the R3, feel the R3 pick up faster and track more “sticky”)
v. the .5s continuous pre-shoot is a real good feature !!! for wildlife .. I dont have many chance test this but it should be one of the best feature !!! all other brands may also follow this soon 😀
– 非常幸运马来西亚佳能，借了我新的R5markii用了3天。相信大家都有与我一样的“希望”。对焦。对焦。对焦。
对我3天的用，我一些感想。
i. 终于，它有了与R3,R7, R6makrii一样的对焦功能，加上新的“点”对焦。吧对焦区域直接换这个，就会想久的对焦方式。不会用上动物对焦。（在很多情况下，这会帮我们对焦上AI 找不到动物）
ii, 动物对焦真的很快，复杂的情况也很快找到。追焦，还是可以。可能用习惯R3， 感觉R3还是追焦好点。等2-3星期后再试。
iii. 那个半秒一直预先拍下半秒的照片，这应该是这几的最好的创新吧（相信其他品牌应该也会用这个吧）。拍下半秒加上继续的1-2秒。只要不是过了相机buffer,相机是一只普通的拍的。不用像以前所有的预拍功能要等上好几秒才可以继续用相机。这真的是太好了。

– it is a tough day, been assign with a 1.5 days (actually just one day for Rail-babbler as main target). After meet Hermina & Shannon, they really keen to see the Rail-babbler… so we make a early move and have a long coffee stop before we go into forest due to some early morning rain. Immediate arrive the area, after got 1 frogmouth calling, and sight the Banded Woodpecker. I heard the Rail-babbler calling, immediate trying to track it down and we spit the bird less than 10 minutes … ring my buddy and hope he is happy man now ..
– 接受了一项几乎是不可能任务，1天时间看白眉长颈鸫。与两名客人交谈后，虽然她们都没来过马来西亚。可是还是觉得要用时间看这目标鸟。一大早下了场小雨，我们吃了进林子。到了没太久，竟然还听到蟆口鸱叫。。。虽然找了一会还是放弃，因为听到白眉长颈鸫叫。找了10多分钟，竟然找到了。。。。。幸运啊

– it is a special out to test the R1, may be I am already start use the “Pre-capture” long ago .. (those Olympus old time, Panasonic etc) for me to captured this kind of “trap focus” “jumping” picture is very easy … now Canon finally come with proper Pre-capture and improve it with … “continous Pre-capture” ..mean it is almost every half-press is a pre capture .. as long as control well the buffer… I hope I can find a better way to share to all of this about this “Best feature” to have for Wildlife Photography
– 这鸟蛮普通几乎在红树林，低海拔，中海拔森林都容易看到。棕色的鸟不难错过。
– 在这几天，我是在想办法记录下“我想大家知道R1 的强大”。。。其中一环是“预拍”。这功能在很久以前我一开始用，在Olympus, Panasonic 可能在10年前就开始有这个很好的功能。有这功能后，拍摄“陷阱对焦”的“起飞跳”降落“ 几乎都没难读。可是这次，佳能的是绝对加强版的“预拍”。。。之前我们拍后都要等上好几秒相机才可以继续使用。可是这次，佳能的是“连续预拍”只要控制好。几乎每一刻都是预拍的。（可是卡可是要大大的，不然很快就卡满）。。还在努力中要怎么呈现我想表达。

– just finish my fist long tour (19days) which sight 366++ (ebird).. many good memory for sure … and this common bird make us spent so much time to have a clear view and even the Bornean Bristlehead above us… no one want to have a look at it … all of suddenly these 2 birds pop up and making some displaying, dancing for us …

– 刚完成19天观鸟团，看到366种鸟（Ebird) (拍到～190种吧。。不是纪录照）太多甜酸。。。包括这一只非常普通的鸟，就用了好几天都没办法看好。。。在这一幕前一天，婆罗洲棘头鵙在头上都没人愿意找（我们看2次了）。几乎都放弃时，在我们碰碰运气找大蓝八色鸫前。它们在我们面前跳起舞来。。。。大家都笑啦。虽然普通。。。。

– 这鸟在丹浓谷应该是最容易（拍摄+看）的吧。可是这一次很另外，我们用了2天还要到林步道里找可是都没看清楚（当然我是看到）。。。当我们都觉得看到这鸟可是不很清楚（其中一个客人非常认真，他是放“没看到”。。）可是最后一天，最后一刻。。。在大路，这鸟很奇特自己跳了出来唱歌+跳舞。。。。

– 2024 好像很常遇上这鸟。好像没错过，这个特别鸟行。没什么想过会看到这鸟。可是，我们竟然2次在不一样的点看到2次。这一次还要很近。。。还拍到“跳”他和一刻。

– it is another great trip, we saw this bird 2 times from Fraser Hill and Danum Valley. While we having ours afternoon walk, this bird just flew in and after we managed to have some good view of the male (didn’t found where the female perch) … the male decide to leave than we saw the female 😀
– 今年非常好的第一个长观鸟团19天。。。见到这鸟2次（西马+东马-婆罗洲）。在丹绒谷，我们在炎热的中午看鸟时。他们就突然飞来，没很久看完公鸟后（找不到母鸟），他就起飞。。。这一幕让我喊“母鸟！”

But I am not happy with some foreign photographers with us… we found the Trogon and stand at best position for the view but another group of Photographers lead by other Guide just stand infront of us when they saw us looking at the bushes … and I actually told them they blocking us .. but they just ignore us !!!!! please be polite and considerate ..

– it is going to end the Sumatra Birding tour here, it is enjoyable we only hit into rain end of the tour which is amazing. My 2023 end with the memorize trip here. But overall is wet, muddy and few places of landslides. As we just concentrate on west-center, we mostly at Sub-montane or Montane birding. I am mostly using CANON RF200800 and CANON R3 for rainforest environment. It is challenging with such long focal length with small aperture (will share more experience later regard the lens)
– this bird seem quite common any where here, we seen and heard almost any where even night roosting at montane area. Such a beautiful bird and hope to see the Java version soon (which I missed 16 years ago)

After whole day travel, we arrived first birding accommodation from 4am – 4pm .. 1+ hour flight and ~7hours drive ..next day morning, we decided to change ours original plan for Ground Cuckoo, but I didn’t see one and only heard twice for almost whole day in a very lovely forest.

– Last year, after searching for this beautiful bird for two days with another group, we were rewarded with an incredible view. From that experience, we learned that waiting patiently wasn’t enough—we needed to act quickly. Determined, we formed another group to return a year later. This time, on the first day, we only heard the bird but couldn’t catch a glimpse of it. However, on the second day, our efforts paid off with an amazing sighting of this rare and stunning endemic species of Sumatra. Happy for the group!

– a casual trip to Taiwan, spend some of the time for birding and while going down from DaxueShan (大雪山）, stop by ~17 years ago spot and update by local birder the bird can be found there but not very promising due to no feeding allow policy apply. But I am just walk up and down birding at the famous 23.5k got some birds and meet up Kuan-Chieh Hung (Taiwan Bird guide) with guests. – the RF200800 does not failed me to fast lock focus and track the bird even I missed quite a lot due to low light (low shutter speed while moving the lens direction fast) but as long as the bird stand still for a second or more most of the continuous series I had more than 70% keeper.

– 佳能 RF200800 与其他RF镜头一样，只要你捉到窍门。动作快，慢都很容易对焦上+追焦。这鸟之遥站上1秒左右，我的连环排（15fps).都有70-80%照片是对焦到眼部的。

很想鸲，雄鸟整个头全为黑色，一道长而宽阔的白色眉纹从眼先上面向后一直延伸到枕部两侧。头至背为黑色，背中部和颈侧带灰，腰黑色、有的具橙黄色羽端，两翅黑褐色，外翈羽缘橄榄灰色，尾上覆羽白色，尾羽黑色。下体颏、喉黑色与头部黑色连成一体，上胸橙红色形成一宽带由两侧向上延伸至后颈和两肩，十分明显而辉亮，下胸橙褐色，两胁橄榄褐色，腹中部和尾下覆羽白色沾灰。

4. Spoon-billed Sandpiper, 勺嘴鹬, 琵嘴鷸, Calidris pygmaea, ヘラシギ
Critically endangered, highly distinctive stint with spatulate bill tip that can be difficult to spot at a distance when held in profile. A coastal mudflat specialist, it stays close to wet and muddy areas near or in water, unlike Red-necked Stint, which often feeds in much drier areas. Breeding adults have a rusty head that resembles that of Red-necked, but the head tends to be darker and the rusty color extends farther down the breast. Nonbreeding adults and juveniles lack the rusty head, have prominent fine stripes on the crown, dark ear patch, and are overall paler than Red-necked. Flight call a soft “prreee.” [Ebird]
勺嘴鹬是鸻形目鹬科勺嘴鹬属鸟类， [20]又叫匙嘴滨鹬、匙嘴鹬、琵嘴鹬、篦鹬。 [21]腿短；头圆；喙短而前端呈勺状。眉纹白色；虹膜褐色；喙黑色；脚黑色； [22]上身主要为黑色，有皮黄色至淡赤褐色的羽缘；下体白色。繁殖期成鸟头、颈及胸均为红棕色并带暗褐色纵纹，非繁殖期成鸟淡褐灰色及覆羽具有白色羽缘。

– lucky day, while ours trip there… friend told us, everyone is at a mud beach for this bird and may be I can try my luck… so I try my luck in one morning .. and bingo less than 10 minutes wait the bird came really close for very good view, picture and video

– after some official stuff and follow by family trip, spent morning session at the “螃蟹步道“. just 30minutes spent, when I arrived I managed to see it far away which 80-120m… and I managed to captured and quite happy with it .. than continue with other birds that come real close.. not long 2 birds spot by local birders and I rush there and managed to have quite good series picture for this rare bird.. managed to have this star bird get close and with my lucky CANON RF200-800 (now I name it as Lucky 28) …

– 其实这次台湾行算事陪家人。谢谢让我早上看看，拍拍鸟。虽然时间短，可是还是蛮幸运。这次到新竹，听到好朋友让我知道 （Long Sheng Yeou) 好几个鸟点，让我有机会拍一些我喜欢的鸭子+这只这么稀有，特别的鸟。虽然早上我只有30+分钟，可是一到达，我就遥远看到+拍到他（大概80-120米）。可是，我也蛮开心了然后就去看看其他鸟。没很久，2只飞来很近。我就很幸运的拍下了一系列照片。

– a very fast moving tiny bird with very soft call bird, it is so difficult to have a open picture .. but with the current new mirrorless animal detect and tracking. It is some how quite easy to have some picture even at complicated environment like this

8. Kentish Plover, 环颈鸻, 東方環頸鴴, Charadrius alexandrinus, シロチドリ
Small, pale plover with broken black collar, sandy upperparts, grayish legs, and rather fine black bill. Breeding plumage has black mask and black tabs at sides of breast (not a complete band). Nonbreeding plumages have black replaced by brown. Mainly coastal, on sandy beaches, dry mudflats, and at salt ponds, usually near water; also locally inland. – I still remember years ago, when we had one visit Malaysia.. drove 2 hours… sit in the hide before light … the bird stand 200-500m away .. and here (Taiwan) so easy and so many … and now I shooting with 1792mm (R7 with 1.6 crop, 800mm + 1.4x tc).. the plumage also look good .. check out the CANON RF200800 update for actual size JPEG
很多年以前，马来西亚来了一只。我们驾车2+小时，还要一大早在帐篷里等。再➕鸟在200-500米远。到了台湾，多么多，容易+进（也没很近，可是我用1792mm… CANON R7 – 1.6 , RF2008000 – 800mm – 1.4x)

– a small and long tail mice, it can be Ranee which may not able to tell. But this is really long tail with really small body length

– 非常小，长尾巴。可能是Haeromys minahassae。可是几个前辈讲到，这很小+尾巴长。应该是Haeromys pusillus。
