Finally I am free to sit down for get more pictures done …

again 2017 Oct we revisit the beautiful Sichuan for Golden Sichuan , for overall we were lucky to have various different weather, view etc …

Day 1 Chengdu –> Kanding

we arrive Chengdu immediate we travel to Kanding for nearer to next destination and also ease ourself with high altitude . (~3000 masl )

whole day raining, and we do believe at higher altitude locations should be snow and we expected to see snow view tomorrow .

Day 2 Kanding – ShanMuJu

along the road we had very good view as usual, but it is just a start . the snow almost 6-10 inch thick, the roadside view still look amazing

Our tour main target , Mount Mount Gongga (Minya Konka) Sichuan highest mountain ~7556masl … at here we got few viewpoint see it really close

before anyone can response the beautiful view, think everyone stand still for this view for ~5-10 minutes … it is good though as we shouldn’t move much at this altitude (~4500masl).

we walk ~1.8km for the beautiful lake .

we continue our next destination but passing by this amazing view and spend sometime here as someone wish to challenge to hike up to highest point of view which look 70-80 degree for 500 meter up 😀

the beautiful Gongga Mountain range .. we were at ~4500m asl

after the beautiful view, we heading Tagong , the cloudy day do not stop us to go wait for sunset.

than we hit into 2 days snow

after 2 days struggle with snow . beside the Mount Yala, there is a beautiful lovely river with mani stones

– we spend quite bad weather here only one amazing sunset at a very old spot we went few years ago by horse and now we found actually we can drive up … !!!!! and the dusk full with colors

Just completed our another Photohunters trip to Sichuan … *** will update the route ASAP ..

from the beginning, our main target is Mount Gongga from various direction …

a lovely day, we welcome with beautiful open Mount Gongga which same as other high peak.. it is seldom open for us to see ..

make use of Lee Filter GND .45h to balance to sky part and CPL to enhance the reflection on lake

2017 Jul 11

Day 1 – KanDing

we try to make everyone get use to the high altitude so we stop at Kanding … we had our great pizza, beer, steak etc here 😀

Day 2 – 上木居

While our way to the destination, many beautiful stops but raining non stop so we can;t make any stop.

Here is our main destination, for Mount Gongga .

OHHHH . bad new hit … whole village no electricity supply !!! and it is still raining and cold

Day 3 – 子梅垭口

what a surprise , snow near our shooting ground . and the Mount Gongga is cover by snow and mist.

Why Filter ? simple sample for GND, RGND and ND filters

after long rest for Landscape photography, went for another quick long exposure, sunset and Milky Way shooting at Batu Pahat … and here few simple sample

– all picture use AV mode meter at same position

– just contrast , saturation add to each picture

1.without any filter

– obviously the top-right over expose without any filter use

2. use most standard GND filter than we recommended for here GND .9s

– sky exposure seem better after the GND even with little highlight

3. use RGND 2 stops

– the exposure seem more balance without highlight due to light concentrate on center of the frame

4. with RGND and 10 stops ND filters

– ND 10 stops to make the shutter speed much slower create different slow shutter effect (silky effect for this) . the calm and peace feel make the picture look different from the standard capture

Overall the GND/RGND is to balance the sky exposure with the foreground and ND can create different effect for composition.

finally back from another Photohunters outing 2016 May, Bali, Indonesia ..

we travel mostly center of Bali … and Skip the west path from the map as it is my own extension travel …

we had 13 of us , shooting non stop from sunset, nightscape, sunrise, slow shutter etc … and most of us feel tired after 2-3 days the outing but all seem enjoy the shooting session till last moment .

sharing some pictures from the tour below

1. Group Photo at Kintamani

2. solo shooting , sunrise on left site and my buddy Gung facing there and I am turning to south direction because saw this 😀

3. while we shoot sunset at Mengening Beach, Bali … saw the pre wedding shooting so I try to snap and go lo

5. Sanur Beach always with Mist !!!!! and a dream boat 😀

6. main target .. nightscape .. not bad everynight also we got clear sky for the milky way shooting

7. cold place and trying different angle and someone camping here !!!!

8. after Milky way .. sunrise here with mist is best but still need to redo due to wrong info by my buddy Gung

9. again high tide !!!! never got chance to shoot low tide here 🙁 but love the golden light hit on the gold rock

10. lovely Jatiluwih paddy field layes, Mount Agung, Moon, blue hours, beautiful sky 😀

11. new spot for Milky way … good to come here by May-Jun 😀 new technique to shoot milky reflection

12. think my last visit this spot .. getting dirty and worst

13. sunset moment .. but think lack of foreground but end up I take another foregound from other place become .. but need more time to post

14. finally got beautiful shoot from here but sunrise direction is way out this month 😀

15. remember bring tele len .. you wont know when u need for landscape 😀

17. think the only time I visit Jatiluwih at Green … and this time we got GREEN + Milky Way 😀

HAIDA 150mm Filter Solution for CANON TS-E 17mm F4

One of my favor len, Canon EF TS-E 17mm F4 … it give sharpness, clarify that I love especially pair with new CANON EOS 5d/5Dsr.

The design of this Len limit ourselves to use filter which is my prefer way to shoot landscape … so I start with Order – Lee Filter Adapter Ring for TS-E 17mm.

but due to it’s limitation of shift, it may not perfect solution . I still use this as it can use all my existing 100mm square filters.

recently, Both Lee Filters and Haida provided better solution for CANON TS-E 17mm len. which is 150mm square filter solution. After long wait, finally I have a chance to test the HAIDA 150mm filter solution for TSE17mm. so this is another set of filters, yes real big to be easy handling which is 150mm width ….

but it do allow us without tilt but shift to max on both left-right/top-bottom…..

CANON EOS 5Dsr vs SONY A7r2

I did a quick and simple test on both new camera that come with big megapix … CANON 5Dsr and SONY A7r2 … both camera use the same len which is CANON EF TS-E 17mm F4 (SONY A7r2 with Viltrox Adapter) , same filter Lee Filter GND .4h and HAIDA 100mmx100mm CPL

we did not use same tripod but put both site by site so the view slight different by ~5 degree different …

both camera

– ISO100

– F13

– MF on the bridge end

– timer shooting

– M mode

– Auto WB

– ACR save pictures , contrast +5, Clarity +10 ONLY .. and no noise reduction

*** I do not share any higher than ISO1600 as we can see the quality have been drop since ISO800 … and I think I would limit my use ~1600 for important photo.

Overall , here are some different for me .. (for landscape photography concern)

1. 5Dsr weight ~845 gram vs ~625 gram

2. tilt screen on SONY A7r2

3. Battery life 5Dsr is longer but it is different size

4. both ISO performance about the same (without noise reduction) , 5Dsr have slight more noise and details over ISO800 and about same for under ISO800

5. Shadow and high recovery both perform same .. 100% shadow recovery show acceptable result .

6. SONY seem lost orange/red tone , give more cold color

7. both give good details , and at highlight area CANON give more info

Photohunter : 2015 Aug 12-16 Bali Landscape Outing

again we visit Bali, Indonesia for 5days4nights for landscape hunting … we have many fun and incident happen during the trip.(food poison, sick, long walk, steep staircase….)

we have total 11 participants and hope everyone enjoy the Photohunting outing

day 1 – SANUR

we spend our sunrise near Sanur , but I was food poisoning and not able to share with other … sorry for all . I will try to share their picture here after get their permission.

day2/3 – NUSA Penida

we travel to Nusa Penida as you can see from the map, we travel across the sea by ferry ~40min ……

– we will on rush on last day so we decided have Sunrise outing near our hotel .. the wave, seaweed plantation, beautiful sky color .. make everyone busy with shutter

HAIDA ND filters

neutral density filter or ND filter is filter reduce light going to the sensor … so create slower shutter speed …. (normaly what we want) .

previously I only pick Lee Filter ND filters for my photography use as the color cast is minimum and best in the market …. recently many brands come out with their filters (square, screw in .. etc ) and some of them give very acceptable color cast and very good value of money … one of them I test is HAIDA …

based on first test few months back, I found HAIDA ND filters giving warmer cast and Lee actually giving colder cast …. but both are very acceptable and very easy to correct if we want to do so …

below are simple capture

– same ISO, same focus and spot area

– Auto White balance

– AV mode

– timer and all shooting continuously one after another

– direct raw-jpeg from DPP

ND 3.0 (10 stops) Lee Filter Big Stopper

from simple capture above , we can see the cast are minimum for both … whether slight warmer or colder than depend on personal preference …
