A colorful stubby-tailed bird, also known as “Navrang,” translated as “nine colors.” Colors are most striking when the bird is in flight. This bird has long, strong legs and a stout bill, a buffy crown with a black stripe in the middle, a black eye-stripe, and and buffy underparts with bright red on the vent. Upperparts are green, with a blue shoulder patch. It is usually seen foraging on forest floors with thick undergrowth, catching insects in leaf litter. This bird is vocal, giving its characteristic two-noted whistle call at dusk and dawn. [Ebird]

– after spent 5 days in lowland forest without ours’ target, decided to spend last day in other kind of forest to have some new tick for customer. Never prepare anything, no worm just go to the “feeding spot” and wait. This bird appear and stand for long for us .. so this consider “feeding” ? (for me yes as without the feeding activities the bird wont be there for us)

– this Pitta would be mist difficult Pitta for myself, exclude the feeding spot picture or sighting. I have only 2 open 1-2s moment to have pictures and total <30s view over the years .. who have non feeding picture ? I know my best buddy and I spent our days and weeks …

– 在森林5天没看到目标鸟，客人还是觉得用最后一天到不一样海拔的森林看看一些新鸟种。我们决定到福隆港，到这“喂食点”我们没准备什么“虫” 就在哪等，这鸟也傻傻的出来让我们看/拍。很多人可能觉得，我都美喂。这不是喂食的哦。对我来讲还是喂的吧，人家不喂。这鸟不会傻傻来这里啦。

– 这八色鸫算是马来西亚最难拍的八色鸫吧。野拍/看，我也只有1-2秒时间看到全开拍照的一刻。看到这鸟也不会超过30秒（过去15年）。可是这鸟让我想起我最要好的朋友。。。。。。

– it is not a new site for this feeding station, 12-13 years ago I got my Blue-headed Pitta similar site and it is not feeding .. the bird just there and it was very fun trip with few good buddies .. Andy Pau, Jasnnie, Ah Lee, Shunfa .. this time we went for feed !!! but the bird came while we arrive and came infornt of me ~4-5feet away without food or hide !!! But after wait for 3 hours .. it came with a chick few times but not the male .. it is a tough time spent with almost 8 hours for Blue-Banded and 3 hours for no male … but this female really beautiful and I think I never got any good picture of female of this bird

– 这个点我在12-13年前就来过与好几位好朋友来拍一样的鸟。当时是没喂食的，就在哪等。鸟自己来跳来跳去。那是的感觉与现在的“等”鸟真的很不一样。可是话说这鸟是喂食的，可是在我们到达时这鸟自己跳来5-6尺前。。。我们没帐篷，虫。虽然很容易拿下，可是还是没等到公鸟。对着斗湖的八色鸫有点恐惧感。。。蓝斑等了～8小时没等到，这鸟也等了3小时没公鸟。可是对我自己来说还是不错，我应该没拍过漂亮的母鸟。

– Java endemic

– previously under the same species of Banded Pitta which now split to 3 different species. Malayan Banded Pitta, Borneo Banded Pitta, and Javan Banded Pitta. all of them with slightly different looks especially male. But all with the same call, behavior.

54. Ivory-breasted Pitta, 白胸八色鸫, 牙白胸八色鳥, Pitta maxima

A distinctive large, plump, short-tailed, long-legged forest bird with a black upperside and white underside, a striking red area on the lower belly, and a conspicuous silvery-blue shoulder patch. Juvenile duller, with buff on underparts. Shy, more often heard than seen. Usually found singly or in pairs in humid lowland and hill forest. Forages on the ground, but while calling often perches high in the understory or canopy. Very vocal; frequently given song is a mournful wolf whistle. [Ebird]

– arrived Halmahera, before anything go for this main target … due to long travel everyone seem tired but luckily the bird appear not that long compare to other waiting 😀 and it is huge in size, some with 800mm little bit suffer to take whole bird into frame

– 到达哈马黑拉岛，第一件事就是到这个点拿下目标鸟之一。其实有2个机会可是鸟人心情。还是越快拿下越好。可是因为长途跋涉，每个人都很累。还好比起其他八色鸫，这只让我们等了大概1++小时还好吧。喂食点，走到这也不难。

– post this before I get busy months again. This is one of the most amazing experience on this trip. When day 1 arrived with heavy rain, after rain stop we did quick birding surrounding our homestay. when we walk near the river, owner say why not we go for quick try on the Pitta and keep mentioned “if the bird is nearby or little bit distance he can do pick-up service” !! (I am thinking pick-up service hmmm). But the bird came without long wait or any issue. (so we missed the pick-up service show)

– next day after Standardwing BOP, we walk back to homestay and pass by the Pitta spot. We would like to try for this pitta again for male. After long wait (~15minutes) , he say the bird is far lets’ him pick-up the pitta .. I was like hmm how ? But he walk into the bush and use whistler/call. After ~10minutes wait, we heard the bird call getting nearer and soon we saw him walking out from the bush. and you can see the Pitta is following him coming out from the bush (may be ~10-15m away) !!!!!! “pick up service”

– 觉得需要把这先写下，这是我在这11天团里觉得最不值得分享经验之一。（或在这一生中也蛮特别）。我们经过一天的飞机-车-八色鸫-船-车-大雨 的折磨。终于到了民宿。雨停后我们也不闲的去看鸟，当然我是唯一带相机的我就拍拍记录照给大家。走走的到了河边，民宿主人问我们要试试八色鸫吗？我们觉得时间不多了，怕不出来浪费时间。可是他说，不怕鸟不在。“我可以去接它过来” ！！！心想什么鬼，接！！！可是我们到后八色鸫一下就出来让我们看的兴奋了。（主要目标之一达标）

第二天一早我们先去看/拍幡羽极乐鸟。容易地拿下后。大家也想回去八色鸫的点看有运气看到巨大的公鸟吗。可是这次等了15分钟等候完全没声音，”他“就说没问题。我去接它过来！（心想又夸口）。他走了近草丛，大概10分钟后我们听到八色鸫叫了。然后他从草丛里走了出来，然后最不可思议的事。八色鸫在跟随他（大概10-15米）后跳了出来 ！！！我们都讲，这样都可以？ 我终于知道人-鸟是一起这样的。”接送服务“！

55. Graceful Pitta, 黑冠八色鸫, 黑冠八色鳥, Erythropitta venusta, スマトラヤイロチョウ

a very similar to Borneo Black-headed Pitta and Garnet pitta call and similar look. But it is an endemic to Sumatra island

– 与婆罗洲的黑头八色鸫，西马的榴红八色鸫非常像。叫声也很像。

– while we looking for the Ground-cuckoo, that area actually plenty of this Pitta. We saw one just 3-5feet from us stand there and cannot take any picture and this bird same just came to us and look at us .. beautiful moment even not a good picture compare to previous feeding station picture but it is a different satisfaction to find one wild..

another “green pitta” almost can heard any where of “east Sumba” almost like other Pitta, so difficult to spot one even can heard many places

– 另一只绿色八色鸫，在东部几乎那都听到。可是与其他八色鸫一样都是听多过看。

– one of the main target, but know it is “feeding spot” it make we not worry of this bird to be photograph. after first night failed of owling, everyone seem tired next day and choose to go the “station”. When we arrive just after <30minute drive from ours hotel and walk less than 5 minutes, the local who manage the “hide” say bird already seen so immediate everyone getting ready the “big lens and camera”. without long wait we have very good view and picture but very quick one than stay near bush for quite some time before 2nd appearance and after 2nd round it stay nearby and I got this picture which I think I prefer this instead perfect view 😀

– 我们这一摄影团主要目标之一，可是我们知道有喂食。所以没太大担心。第一晚的没鸮晚上，我们第二天就选了容易+高兴的“檀”

当我们到达时，很快檀主说鸟在了。我们很快准备好，没很久。站在客人最喜欢的，绿青苔石头+背景。可是就那一刻，等了蛮久第2轮出来就在地上跳来跳去。吃完后就到后面站了一会让我拍下这一刻（我本身较喜欢的）

101. Blue Pitta, 蓝八色鸫, 藍八色鶇, Hydrornis cyaneus, ルリヤイロチョウ

Only the male of this rotund ground-dweller is truly blue; the female only has a hint of blue on the rump and tail. Male is brilliant and eye-catching if seen well: sky-blue on the back with a polka-dotted light blue breast and belly. Female has gray-brown wings and finely barred white underparts. Both sexes boast a pale face and a thin black eyebrow, above which flames a lava-red crown (darker in males than in females) (Ebird)

体长约24厘米，体重109克左右。体型圆胖，尾短，腿长。羽色鲜艳，头顶两侧橘黄色的宽带延伸至颈背，宽宽的过眼纹黑色，脸颊皮黄，髭纹黑，尾亮蓝色。雌鸟较雄鸟色暗，但下体的白色仍清楚可见。

152. Blue-breasted Pitta, 红胸八色鸫, 紅腹八色鳥, Erythropitta erythrogaster, アカハラヤイロチョウ

A plump, short-tailed, long-legged terrestrial bird with a red belly, a black throat, a blue chest band, and a ruddy-colored head. Juvenile is dull brown with blue in rump and tail and a horn-colored bill with a pale tip and base. Singles or pairs inhabit forest, degraded patches, and bamboo thickets in lowlands and hills. Differs from Whiskered Pitta in smaller size, black throat, lack of a pale whisker, and more extensive ruddy head coloration. (EBird)
