2025 has been so hectic that I didn’t even get a chance to visit this place—I really miss both the location and its birds. This stunning endemic trogon from Sumatra remains one of the most beautiful I’ve seen in Indonesia.

2025年实在太忙了，连这地方都没时间去一趟。我真的很想念这里和那里的鸟。这只来自印尼苏门答腊岛的特有咬鹃，依然是我见过最美丽的咬鹃之一。

– On the last day of the trip, the bird came incredibly close and low, but the heavy mist made it difficult to capture a clear shot. I attempted to photograph it in flight and managed to get a few shots, though the image quality suffered due to the mist and low light conditions.

– One of the primary reasons to visit Sumatra Island in Indonesia is to witness this incredible endemic species. I must say, you’ll be amazed by the breathtaking beauty of this bird when viewed through binoculars or a camera lens.

– Like other Trogons, it feeds incredibly quickly, finishing its meal in mere seconds.

– 前往印度尼西亚苏门答腊岛的主要原因之一就是欣赏这里令人惊叹的这一只特有物种。我必须说，当你通过双筒望远镜或相机镜头观察这只鸟时，它的美丽会让你叹为观止。

– During our 6-day photography trip, we encountered this bird multiple times. On the final evening, despite the misty weather, we were fortunate to see it flying around to feed. It was the perfect chance to capture some shots of it in flight (BIF). The new Canon R1 made photographing BIF much easier, even in the challenging jungle environment.

– It’s an incredibly striking bird, with colors that might seem mismatched but come together beautifully in a single species. Truly stunning, and it’s fairly common in Sumatra’s sub-montane and montane regions.

– Returning to the Center-East for a bird photography group, we were fortunate to spot this bird on the very first morning. A stunning male appeared, displaying a vibrant array of colors on its back.

– 这是一种非常引人注目的鸟，颜色看起来似乎不太协调，但却完美地融合在一只鸟身上。非常惊艳，而且在苏门答腊的中海拔和高海拔相当常见。

– it is going to end the Sumatra Birding tour here, it is enjoyable we only hit into rain end of the tour which is amazing. My 2023 end with the memorize trip here. But overall is wet, muddy and few places of landslides. As we just concentrate on west-center, we mostly at Sub-montane or Montane birding. I am mostly using CANON RF200800 and CANON R3 for rainforest environment. It is challenging with such long focal length with small aperture (will share more experience later regard the lens)

– this bird seem quite common any where here, we seen and heard almost any where even night roosting at montane area. Such a beautiful bird and hope to see the Java version soon (which I missed 16 years ago)

– another Christmas spend with my best guest, buddy .. this time choose have special target tour to Sumatra. After whole day travel, we arrived first birding accommodation from 4am – 4pm .. 1+ hour flight and ~7hours drive ..next day morning, we decided to change ours original plan for Ground Cuckoo, but I didn’t see one and only heard twice for almost whole day in a very lovely forest.

– this bird flying in-front of us while we waiting ours target and having ours hot tea session. What a beauty, still remember ~18 years ago I missed my Java trogon … and today see this very look a-like endemic of Sumatra ..

– 另一个圣诞节与我的好朋友+客人在森林里度过。这次我们选了苏门答腊。经过12小时。。车+飞机（1+小时）+车（7++小时）我们到住宿时已过了4点下午休息后，我们决定换我们行程先去找找地鹃。可是，一整天在森林都没看到还只听到2声。

还好这一只这么漂亮的鸟竟然在我们喝热茶等鸟时，竟然自己飞过来。上帝很厉害配颜色。

– arrived the famous Tapan road, stop the first location as saw the whistling-thrush on the road and not long heard a not so familiar call and soon Dwi say it is a babbler and make some small effort to have it in view and not so open photo due to very lowlight. In the noon time very soon we have another chance to photograph it ..

– 到达鸟点（其实不是什么鸟点，就是条64公里的森林边的路）我们第一停下来，因为看到苏门答腊啸鸫。附近就听到我不很熟悉的声音，很快的Dwi 讲是鹛。也不容易的看到，当然也不好拍。。动作快+暗。在中午回程中，还好给个机会在听到。这次就好好拿下。

– a very beautiful Ground-Cuckoo and it is as beautiful as the Bornean Ground-Cuckoo. it is shy, move fast on ground

Before I get busy again, I’d like to share an unforgettable moment from our photography trip to Sumatra. On Day 1, one of our members faced a “viewfinder” issue with the Canon R5 Mark II. While everything in the viewfinder appeared blurry, the AF points were still visible, and remarkably, every captured image was perfectly focused on the right subject—especially the bird’s eyes!

Shooting without a clear view through the viewfinder is no easy task, yet it’s incredible how this member managed to capture all the key targets with perfect bird-eye focus, relying entirely on the camera’s animal eye detection system. This even included the rare and stunning ground cuckoo.

在我再次忙碌之前，想分享我们苏门答腊摄影之旅中一个难忘的时刻。第一天，我们的一位队员的佳能 R5 Mark II 遇到了“取景器”问题。尽管取景器中的画面完全是模糊的，但自动对焦点仍然可见，令人惊讶的是，所有拍摄的照片都完美地对焦在目标上——尤其是鸟的眼睛！

在没有清晰取景画面的情况下进行拍摄确实极具挑战，但不可思议的是，这位队员完全依靠相机的动物眼部检测功能，成功捕捉到了所有主要目标，并精准对焦在鸟眼上，其中还包括那只罕见而美丽的地鸦。

– Last year, after searching for this beautiful bird for two days with another group, we were rewarded with an incredible view. From that experience, we learned that waiting patiently wasn’t enough—we needed to act quickly. Determined, we formed another group to return a year later. This time, on the first day, we only heard the bird but couldn’t catch a glimpse of it. However, on the second day, our efforts paid off with an amazing sighting of this rare and stunning endemic species of Sumatra. Happy for the group!

– 去年，我们与另一个团队一起寻找这只美丽的鸟儿，经过两天的努力，终于得到了一个令人难以置信的观赏机会。从那次经历中，我们明白了，光是耐心等待是不够的——我们需要果断行动。于是，我们决定组织另一个团队，一年后再次前往。这次，第一天我们只能听到鸟鸣，却没能看到它。然而，在第二天，我们的努力终于得到了回报，成功观赏到了这只罕见而美丽的苏门答腊特有鸟种。为团队感到开心！

– One of our main targets for this trip, but it didn’t show up at the “feeding spot.” After waiting at two locations, it suddenly appeared not far away. Everyone quickly grabbed their gear, and although it remained tame, it never came to the feeding spot. Still, we were thrilled to see the female, especially since we missed it last year—though this year, we missed the male!

– 这是我们此行的主要目标之一，但它似乎没有出现在“喂食点”。在两个地点等待后，它突然出现在不远处。大家立刻拿起装备，虽然它依然很驯服，但并没有来到喂食点。不过，我们还是很高兴看到了雌鸟，尤其是去年错过了它——不过今年却错过了雄鸟！

– as other Peacock-Pheasant, it is shy and not easy to have a good view in the wild. This pair of Sumatra endemic, will show up at one of the feeding station but this male will chase any bird that come close make us only saw the main target Schneider’s Pitta (2 times before light, 1 time night)

– 雨其他孔雀稚一样，漂亮，害羞。都不容易看到。在施氏八色鸫“喂食”点，有一双回来。很漂亮可是可惜他们在，都会赶其他鸟。所以我们一个早上都没看到其他鸟来。（他们出现后）

– as other forktail, a small and very shy bird. But it is a beautiful one with rufous head instead ovarall black-and-white.

– the famous Tapan road had few landslides so we mostly walking at the road (~15-20km) but overall Bulbul, leafbirds, dove almost not heard or visible … but this endemic came down to feed berry while we have good view of ~12 Blue Nuthatch.

– 在塔版路，好几个地方塌方。我只有步行（15-20公里）可是还是非常少鹎，叶鹎，鸠的声音+踪影。这一只特有种，突然飞下来吃小果实。

– 这鸟是我们在婆罗洲非常希望拍到的鸟。几乎不可能看到。虽然应该是不一样亚种。在这非常容易，虽然也有一定的难度。小，不容易辨别方向。

– even it is high chance to find it’s roosting bird, but we always like to find the bird in night. Ours’ first morning, have a good try and the bird didn’t make any sound… I am amaze how I found it (haha, by the thermal camera.. found it once very near and 2nd time quite a distance)

– 虽然在这，当地导游都会找到早上版的。可是我与我的客人都是喜欢自己找找（不喜欢等人家找到叫你去看）。第一个早上，我们就去找找。到森林后，没很久就找到了。（很不可思议的找到，它没叫！。。不啦我是有热量仪相机找到啦）

– almost not possible to get the picture of this endemic bird with bird watcher … but lucky or not so lucky the main target is no show … while we waiting, I personal looking for this bird and lucky to have this better moment for photo and I actually got 3 in 1 frame.

– 几乎不大可能在短时间拍到这特有种鸟，非常活跃，跳非常快。可是运气好（还是不好？）我们主要目标没出现，只好在这等待。让我有一点时间去拍拍这鸟。鹪鹛啊，我最爱的鸟种。

– A relatively common Sumatran endemic, but slightly shy when approached for photographs. We were very fortunate to spot it resting and preening while searching for another target.

– 一种相对常见的苏门答腊特有鸟类，但在靠近拍摄时显得有些害羞。我们很幸运在寻找其他目标时，发现它正在休息和梳理羽毛。

– another bird suppose to hope come to feeding station but not, but we managed to heard and found the bird. Again this is another reason setup customize button for my R3 which can shoot in complex environment (just like this) point the focus points (I using 5 point) on to any part of the bird and eye will be lock focus ..very useful and suitable for people like shooting wildbird in move

– 我们以为可以在喂食点看到，可是等了一个早上都没声音。我们没等，在上山路中听到也蛮容易找到（有神器嘛）。还有这是个好教材，我的CANON R3, 为了快速拍到懂得鸟通常都是开全福/中部区域对焦（鸟眼）可是在这种情况是应该很难找到的（有时也可以）。可是我选了其中一个钮，放了5点对焦（鸟眼）。通常找不到后，我很快用这个对焦钮碰鸟的任何一个部位。立刻就可以找到鸟眼了。。真的很好用！

– This is one of the most common birds at Fraser’s Hill, Malaysia, but its beauty never fails to captivate me. I never tire of seeing or photographing it, even when we’re in Sumatra, Indonesia. My buddy and I were hiking to find other targets, with no much luck—only hearing calls without seeing anything. Then, this bird appeared, coming down low to feed, offering us a perfect opportunity.

– After a successful first day, with nearly all our targets achieved, we ventured farther from the birding photography hide in search of more species. About 2 kilometers into the hike, as we decided to turn back, three of these birds appeared, feeding right in front of us and providing a perfect photo opportunity.

– A tiny and very shy bird that is difficult to get a good view of or photograph. Based on my sightings across Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, and Sumatra, both Sumatra and Borneo offer slightly better chances of seeing this bird clearly. However, Sumatra seems to be the best place for capturing good photos. Without a doubt, the bird stayed long enough for me—even allowing me to record a video!

21. Salvadori’s Pheasant, 黑尾鹇, 黑尾鷴, Lophura inornata, クロウチワキジ, Sempidan Sumatera

Chunky pheasant endemic to Sumatra’s highlands and foothills. Male is dark iridescent blue, while the female is warm brown with a dark tail. Both sexes have short tails, bright red patches of bare facial skin, and pale bills with a faint hook. Forages quietly on the forest floor, typically singly, sometimes in pairs. Generally fairly quiet; deep “bwoop” contact calls sometimes given, and males give a wing-whirring display that can be audible at close range. [Ebird]

一种体型健硕的雉类，特有于苏门答腊的高地和丘陵地区。雄鸟呈深蓝色金属光泽羽毛，而雌鸟则为温暖的棕色，带有深色尾羽。两性都具有短尾、鲜红的裸露面部皮肤斑块，以及淡色、略带钩状的喙。通常在森林地面上安静觅食，通常单独活动，有时成对出现。总体上相当安静，有时会发出低沉的“布沃普”联系叫声，雄鸟还会进行扇翅展示，在近距离时可听见。

– One of the most striking pheasants, we missed the chance to photograph it last year. This year, however, the female appeared at a feeding spot around noon and lingered for a long time, showing no signs of leaving.

Secretive, handsome endemic pheasant of Taiwan’s mountains. Male slaty blue from nape to flanks, with contrasting white upper back, brown mantle, and dark gray wings; female mostly rich brown with pale markings above. Both sexes have red facial skin, more extensive in male. Forages quietly in pairs in the forest understory, occasionally along forest edge on trails or roads. Both sexes give subtle clucking calls and a high-pitched squeaky alarm call. Male has white in tail and back, unlike Mikado Pheasant; female distinguished by richer plumage tones, broader tail, pale bill, reddish legs, and unmarked underparts. [Ebird]

– I had the same Pheasant 16years +- ago but I remember it was either 30/40d 100400 and misty, dark … so I don’t even remember I had keep the photo or not. But finally this time I got opportunity to see it for longer time, better weather … hope see it again future

– a casual trip to Taiwan, spend some of the time for birding and while going down from DaxueShan (大雪山）, stop by ~17 years ago spot and update by local birder the bird can be found there but not very promising due to no feeding allow policy apply. But I am just walk up and down birding at the famous 23.5k got some birds and meet up Kuan-Chieh Hung (Taiwan Bird guide) with guests. After some chit chat session, one of the guesst say .. come come come .. which not really at casual location. 1 male and 3 female relaxing for more than 5 minutes

– female see very beautiful with so much body pattern

– 这次到台湾不是主要为鸟。可是还是利用有的时间，机会看看，拍拍鸟。在大雪山回程时，停在17年前（朋友带过我们到这，他也让我知道。这鸟还在，就不是很活跃因为台湾不允许喂食。所以鸟也不常来了）

在这遇上fb 朋友（红冠），他可是台湾鸟导。与他在哪谈了一会，突然他的客人。叫我们“过来，过来。。“。过去看到这漂亮的特有种。1雄3雌在哪活动了好几分钟。

– 雌鸟很少很漂亮。这鸟很不一样，母鸟真的很美。

– the only species that I saw 2 day in the row at DaXueShan, lovely and moving fast as other Yuhina.

– the RF200800 does not failed me to fast lock focus and track the bird even I missed quite a lot due to low light (low shutter speed while moving the lens direction fast) but as long as the bird stand still for a second or more most of the continuous series I had more than 70% keeper.

– 算是大雪山普鸟。2天在这都看到蛮多次，与其他凤鹛一样。动人姿势，动作快。

– 佳能 RF200800 与其他RF镜头一样，只要你捉到窍门。动作快，慢都很容易对焦上+追焦。这鸟之遥站上1秒左右，我的连环排（15fps).都有70-80%照片是对焦到眼部的。

很想鸲，雄鸟整个头全为黑色，一道长而宽阔的白色眉纹从眼先上面向后一直延伸到枕部两侧。头至背为黑色，背中部和颈侧带灰，腰黑色、有的具橙黄色羽端，两翅黑褐色，外翈羽缘橄榄灰色，尾上覆羽白色，尾羽黑色。下体颏、喉黑色与头部黑色连成一体，上胸橙红色形成一宽带由两侧向上延伸至后颈和两肩，十分明显而辉亮，下胸橙褐色，两胁橄榄褐色，腹中部和尾下覆羽白色沾灰。

4. Spoon-billed Sandpiper, 勺嘴鹬, 琵嘴鷸, Calidris pygmaea, ヘラシギ

Critically endangered, highly distinctive stint with spatulate bill tip that can be difficult to spot at a distance when held in profile. A coastal mudflat specialist, it stays close to wet and muddy areas near or in water, unlike Red-necked Stint, which often feeds in much drier areas. Breeding adults have a rusty head that resembles that of Red-necked, but the head tends to be darker and the rusty color extends farther down the breast. Nonbreeding adults and juveniles lack the rusty head, have prominent fine stripes on the crown, dark ear patch, and are overall paler than Red-necked. Flight call a soft “prreee.” [Ebird]

勺嘴鹬是鸻形目鹬科勺嘴鹬属鸟类，^[20]又叫匙嘴滨鹬、匙嘴鹬、琵嘴鹬、篦鹬。^[21]腿短；头圆；喙短而前端呈勺状。眉纹白色；虹膜褐色；喙黑色；脚黑色；^[22^]上身主要为黑色，有皮黄色至淡赤褐色的羽缘；下体白色。繁殖期成鸟头、颈及胸均为红棕色并带暗褐色纵纹，非繁殖期成鸟淡褐灰色及覆羽具有白色羽缘。

– lucky day, while ours trip there… friend told us, everyone is at a mud beach for this bird and may be I can try my luck… so I try my luck in one morning .. and bingo less than 10 minutes wait the bird came really close for very good view, picture and video

– after some official stuff and follow by family trip, spent morning session at the “螃蟹步道“. just 30minutes spent, when I arrived I managed to see it far away which 80-120m… and I managed to captured and quite happy with it .. than continue with other birds that come real close.. not long 2 birds spot by local birders and I rush there and managed to have quite good series picture for this rare bird.. managed to have this star bird get close and with my lucky CANON RF200-800 (now I name it as Lucky 28) …

– it really feed non stop keep moving …

– 其实这次台湾行算事陪家人。谢谢让我早上看看，拍拍鸟。虽然时间短，可是还是蛮幸运。这次到新竹，听到好朋友让我知道（Long Sheng Yeou) 好几个鸟点，让我有机会拍一些我喜欢的鸭子+这只这么稀有，特别的鸟。虽然早上我只有30+分钟，可是一到达，我就遥远看到+拍到他（大概80-120米）。可是，我也蛮开心了然后就去看看其他鸟。没很久，2只飞来很近。我就很幸运的拍下了一系列照片。

– a very fast moving tiny bird with very soft call bird, it is so difficult to have a open picture .. but with the current new mirrorless animal detect and tracking. It is some how quite easy to have some picture even at complicated environment like this

8. Kentish Plover, 环颈鸻, 東方環頸鴴, Charadrius alexandrinus, シロチドリ

Small, pale plover with broken black collar, sandy upperparts, grayish legs, and rather fine black bill. Breeding plumage has black mask and black tabs at sides of breast (not a complete band). Nonbreeding plumages have black replaced by brown. Mainly coastal, on sandy beaches, dry mudflats, and at salt ponds, usually near water; also locally inland. Migrants will join with flocks of other shorebirds. [Ebird]

– I still remember years ago, when we had one visit Malaysia.. drove 2 hours… sit in the hide before light … the bird stand 200-500m away .. and here (Taiwan) so easy and so many … and now I shooting with 1792mm (R7 with 1.6 crop, 800mm + 1.4x tc).. the plumage also look good .. check out the CANON RF200800 update for actual size JPEG

很多年以前，马来西亚来了一只。我们驾车2+小时，还要一大早在帐篷里等。再➕鸟在200-500米远。到了台湾，多么多，容易+进（也没很近，可是我用1792mm… CANON R7 – 1.6 , RF2008000 – 800mm – 1.4x)

A small, dainty bee-eater of open woodlands, farmland, and sparse human habitation. Mainly green with a bluish throat, slender black eye mask and throat band, rufous or slightly rusty crown and back of the neck, and central tail streamers. Juveniles are duller than adults and lack the long tail feathers. In flight, note the rusty underwing with a black trailing edge. Flies gracefully as it catches insects and other prey. Calls are a series of gentle liquid trills or more staccato notes. [ebird]

An unmistakable, large ground bird. The unmistakable iridescent blue male spreads out its ornamental upper tail feathers when courting females. Females have a shorter tail, an iridescent green neck, and browner plumage. Found in forest, forest edge, and agricultural land. Often seen on paths or alertly feeding in the undergrowth. Can be fairly confiding especially when found close to human habitation. Its loud screaming “may-yow” calls are heard incessantly during the rainy season. [eBird]

A colorful stubby-tailed bird, also known as “Navrang,” translated as “nine colors.” Colors are most striking when the bird is in flight. This bird has long, strong legs and a stout bill, a buffy crown with a black stripe in the middle, a black eye-stripe, and and buffy underparts with bright red on the vent. Upperparts are green, with a blue shoulder patch. It is usually seen foraging on forest floors with thick undergrowth, catching insects in leaf litter. This bird is vocal, giving its characteristic two-noted whistle call at dusk and dawn. [Ebird]

Occurs in pairs or singly, on or near the ground, in forest, forest edge, and gardens, mostly in the Wet Zone, but also locally in the Dry Zone. No other thrush on Sri Lanka shows distinct rows of white spots on the wings, and bold spotting below. Gives very high-pitched “sweeeee” call; song is a highly variable collection of rich, rising and falling, melodious whistles and warbles. [ebird]

Wild chickenlike bird. Male is burnt orange with dark streaks, cockerel-like glossy black tail, and a prominent red comb marked with yellow on the crown. Gray-brown female has white streaks and prominent barring on its wings. Terrestrial, found in pairs or small groups in forests of lowlands and highlands over much of Sri Lanka. Generally keeps to cover. Only confusion is with domestic chicken; note lack of white at tail base, and yellow marking on comb of males, and bars in wings of females in Sri Lanka Junglefowl. A large, long-tailed blue bird with a white-tipped tail, and chestnut hood and wings. Inhabits humid forest from lowlands to hills, where it often accompanies mixed canopy flocks, either singly or in small groups. There are no other large, long-tailed blue birds in its range. A noisy species. Sounds typically a series of high-pitched, piercing “clink” calls, as well as some rasping “krak” notes often given in a sequence. [Ebird]

A brightly colored bird with various shades of blue on the wings, tails, and belly that are often more prominent in flight. Note the longitudinal white streaks on the throat and breast. Indochinese Roller has a purple-blue breast, a darker olive back, and is generally darker blue. Generally silent, but more vocal in breeding season with harsh calls. Prefers open areas, including agricultural landscapes, sitting on exposed perches including electric wires, occasionally pumping its tail slowly. – very recent discover bird of Sri Lanka

Very small rufescent owl, with yellow-orange eyes, and sparse, light speckles on the underparts. Although does not possess true ear tufts it can show “false” ones when alert. Occurs within extensive humid rainforests in the lowlands of Wet Zone of Sri Lanka. Roosts singly or in pairs in the understory, but also found in upper levels of trees at night. Combination of small size, all rufous color, lack of prominent facial border, and only limited markings below separates it from all other owls on Sri Lanka. Song is a short “woOLoo”, rising in the middle. [Ebird]

蛮不普通的特有种，我们只在辛哈拉加森林保护区听到+看到。有如其他地鹃，在丛里跳来跳去。这鸟有点意思，当地鸟岛是找鸟浪才找它的。

– quite common overall at Center – South Sri Lanka. it have similar call and behavior of Lineated barbet found at Malaysia

Both males and females show an orange rump. Usually seen in small flocks, frequently uttering high-pitched “swee swee” call as they continuously move around feeding on insects, sometimes catching them mid-air like flycatchers. – another “Paradise Flycatcher” split previously but it is quite obvious “crest”

A graceful looking flycatcher, the adult male sport a long ribbonlike tail. The males occur in two color morphs cinnamon and white. Both color morphs sport a glossy black head with blue ring around the eye, but white morph is entirely white below while the cinnamon morph has cinnamon upperparts and tail, and dirty white underparts. The females are cinnamon above with a grayish throat, a shorter tail, and they lack the male’s blue eyering. They make short aerial sallies after insects, usually returning to the same perch. Occasionally descends to ground to pull apart insects. Chiefly found in wooded habitats. Their call is a harsh “shreew.” [ebird]

Large, plain gray pigeon with conspicuous black-and-white stripes on the nape. Underparts flushed mauve. Inhabits upper levels of forests and densely wooded areas in the hills and mountains, where occurs in pairs or small flocks. Combination of black-and-white neck markings and plain, unmarked, dark gray upperparts identifies this species from all other pigeons on Sri Lanka. Vocalizations include a single, deep “wooo”, and also an owl-like, double note “woo-oo”. [EBird]

– Smaller than Himalayan snowcock, this species has a grey head and neck with a white patch behind the eye and above the dark cheek. – previously under the same species of Banded Pitta which now split to 3 different species. Malayan Banded Pitta, Borneo Banded Pitta, and Javan Banded Pitta. all of them with slightly different looks especially male. But all with the same call, behavior.

An eye-catching white starling with black tips to the tail and wings, bare blue facial skin, and long plumes that hang down the nape. Juvenile is shorter-crested than adult, with yellow wash. Found in small groups in open forest, where it spends time in the trees and foraging on the ground. Avoids dense forest. Restricted to northwest Bali. Differs from Black-winged Starling in having the black on the wings confined to tips, and in showing blue facial skin. Song is an untidy jumble of scratchy, chattering notes and whistles. [Ebird]

长冠八哥（学名：Leucopsar rothschildi）：是一种大型椋鸟，体长约25厘米，雌雄相似，外形俊朗，羽冠发达，眼睛四周和面部裸出，裸露部分为蓝色，全身羽毛纯白色，尾部和翼端的边缘呈黑色，脚灰色。全身白色，具较长冠羽，羽冠不像一些羽冠发达的鸟类复杂多变，却十分有特点，有丝带状的羽冠简洁随意飘洒。1910年由英国鸟类学家沃尔特·罗斯柴尔德（Walter Rothschild）命名。^[1]

通常栖息在海岸附近长有长草的草原，喜欢三五成群聚居在林地，求偶时雄鸟会竖起冠羽，不断地上下摆动头部。群居，在树上觅食果实和昆虫。因分布区狭，栖息地遭到破坏，野生种群数量稀少，是椋鸟中最罕有物种处境岌岌可危，依然沦落为世界上极危鸟种。分布于印度尼西亚巴厘岛。

I normally shoot ~15fps in most of the camera by default … when this bird sudden dive in I am too late to change the fps .. and most of the frame without very good “eye contact” or I would say too less frame within the dive action (~7frames)

– transit to Sumba Island so spent some time in Bali for casual birding, managed to have this pond for small fun for everyone .. this bird very common here first arrive every one chase haha .. and day2 everyone target other bird except me waiting some bird fall into better light position but saw these 2 birds fighting for fish even not at the direction I wanted but just capture the moment 😀

A dark, sleek, medium-sized bird with a black crest and a white rump. The red color under the tail is often difficult to see. Eats fruit, flower buds, and insects. Conspicuous and sometimes gregarious, often seen high in trees or perched on wires in urban and rural areas; generally prefers scrubby edge habitat instead of dense forest. Calls include a variety of chirps and whistles. Native to South and Southeast Asia. Introduced to Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, and some Polynesian islands, including Hawaii. [Ebird]

It seems this bird is quite common in the region—I may have seen it before in Sri Lanka or somewhere else. Still, it’s great to spot our first bird here after a long journey and a relaxing stay at the homestay in Baihualing, Yunnan, China.

I’ve quickly adapted to the setup (Canon R1), and capturing these in-flight shots felt almost seamless. The bird flew straight toward us, and I managed to get all 19 frames perfectly in focus.

这只鸟似乎在这个地区很常见——我可能之前在斯里兰卡或其他地方见过。不过，在经过长途旅行和在云南百花岭的民宿放松之后，看到我们的第一只鸟还是很令人欣喜。

This largest of the barbets is colorful, but often appears all-dark from a distance. No other barbet in its range combines the features of a massive pale bill, black head, and dark olive back. Sluggish and shy; tends to stick to dense forest canopy, where it is difficult to see. Its loud hooting song (typically a series of two repetitive notes) is often the only indication of this species’s presence. Also gives a harsh, screaming “karrrrr” that has a gull-like quality. I’ve seen this bird many times in various places but never had the chance to capture a photo—until now. Here, we finally had numerous opportunities to take some great shots.

Seeing the photo afterward was a completely different kind of excitement, as the vibrant colors that define the bird truly stood out. Simply incredible!

4. Cachar Wedge-billed Babbler, 楔嘴鹩鹛, 紋胸楔嘴鷯鶥, Stachyris roberti, チャイロキリハシチメドリ

A gregarious babbler with a dark back and underparts spangled with scaly silver markings. At first glance, may resemble a cupwing, but this babbler is much larger and longer-tailed, and does not stick as closely to the ground as cupwings do. Often moves deep in dense shrubbery, but will occasionally forage in the middle layers of the forest as well, scaling trees and creeping along branches. [Ebird]

One of the stunning babblers has such flat body feather details that it almost resembles a drawing.

一种群居的鸟，背部和腹部呈深色，并点缀着鳞状银色斑纹。乍一看，它可能与短翅鸫相似，但这只画眉鸟体型更大，尾巴更长，而且不像短翅鸫那样紧贴地面活动。通常在茂密的灌木丛深处活动，但偶尔也会在森林的中层觅食，攀爬树木，沿着树枝移动。[Ebird]

An 8-day journey to Yunnan, particularly to this bird photography paradise, is almost at its end. As expected, capturing great photos of many species was as simple as sitting and waiting. However, a bit of luck was still needed. According to local, the number of bird species visiting has decreased, and with more hides available, the birds may now spread out instead of gathering in the usual spots. Regardless, we thoroughly enjoyed our authentic photography experience here.

Although the trip isn’t over yet, this moment stands out as one of my favorites. The bird was incredibly active, appearing for just a split second with an almost surreal “flat” look to its body—like a 2D drawing. But with patience, it rewarded us with some fantastic views as the day drew to a close.

为期八天的云南之旅，尤其是在这个鸟类摄影天堂，已接近尾声。正如预期的那样，只需静静地坐着等待，就能轻松拍到许多鸟类的精彩照片。不过，运气也不可或缺。据当地人介绍，前来的鸟种数量有所减少，而且随着隐蔽观测点的增多，鸟类可能会分散到不同的藏身处，而不再像以前那样集中。但无论如何，我们都非常享受这次真实而纯粹的摄影之旅。

This tiny bird moves swiftly through the bushes, making it incredible that we managed to spot it.

It’s a bird everyone on this trip has been eager to photograph. Yesterday, only Amy and I were lucky enough to capture it, while others could only catch a glimpse without getting any photos. However, luck was on our side today! Two different Tesias came close to us within just 15 minutes, giving everyone the chance they had been hoping for. Tonight, we can all sleep soundly, content with the experience.

这只小鸟在灌木丛中快速穿梭，真是令人惊叹，我们竟然能发现它。

这是本次旅程中每个人都渴望拍摄的一只鸟。昨天只有我和另一位女士（Amy）幸运地拍到了它，其他人只能匆匆一瞥，却没能拍下照片。然而，今天幸运降临了！两只不同的地莺在15分钟内先后靠近我们，让大家终于得偿所愿。今晚，我们都可以心满意足地安然入睡了。

6. Yellow-bellied Fairy-Fantail, 黄腹扇尾鹟, 黃腹扇尾鶲, Chelidorhynx hypoxanthus, キバラオウギビタキ

An active little bird with a bright yellow belly and a pale-tipped fan-like tail. Most common in foothill and submontane broadleaf forests, where it forages energetically and acrobatically in the middle and lower levels, often with fulvettas, warblers, and other small passerines in mixed-species foraging flocks. Very similar in shape to fantails but much smaller, and actually more closely related to tits. Song is a series of high “tsit” notes interspersed with twitters and trills. Call is often repeated at length, akin to a song, but much simpler, a series of high “tsip” notes. [Ebird]

One of the most active birds, behaving much like a fantail. While it’s not a lifer for me—I previously recorded it in Northern Thailand—it’s still a challenge to spot here in Yunnan, China. Thankfully, luck was on our side, and we managed to witness it spreading its tail, giving us a few great moments for some good photo opportunities.

这是一只非常活跃的小鸟，行为举止有点像扇尾鹟。虽然对我来说不算新记录（之前在泰国北部拍摄过），但在中国云南也并不容易拍到。不过幸运的是，我们得以目睹它展开尾羽的瞬间还给了我们一些宝贵的拍摄机会。

7. Bianchi’s Warbler, 比氏鹟莺, 比氏鶲鶯, Phylloscopus valentini, インドシナモリムシクイ

One of a number of mind-numbingly similar Seicercus warblers. Greenish-yellow above and bright yellow below, with a faint wingbar, a yellow eyering, and a grayish crown marked by two black stripes. Gray of the crown is weaker than that of White-spectacled and Plain-tailed Warblers, but this feature is difficult to see in the shade of the understory, where it usually forages. Breeds in submontane and montane forest up to the treeline; averages higher Martens’s Warbler. Descends into submontane and hill forest in the non-breeding season. Song is an unremarkable but lively burst of whistled notes, lower in pitch than that of Plain-tailed Warbler. [Ebird]

A tiny warbler with a sudden flash of “yellowish” plumage appeared, and I immediately thought, “It’s a new bird!” Naturally, everyone quickly grabbed their cameras to capture it. It only showed up briefly while we were casually waiting for birds to come to the water.

一只小小的、突然出现的“泛黄色”的鹛类鸟，让我立刻想到：“新鸟！”于是大家赶紧举起相机拍摄。这只鸟只出现了一会儿，当时我们其实只是在随意等候鸟类来饮水。

8. Small Niltava, 小仙鹟, 小仙鶲, Niltava macgrigoriae, チビアオヒタキ

Size distinguishes this species from other niltavas; coloration is quite similar to Large Niltava, which is double the size. Male Small Niltava is bright blue with the brightest patches on the shoulder and forehead. Female is brown with a white eyering and a rufous tail and wingtips. Forages in the lower and middle levels of hilly and montane forests, usually singly. Listen for its distinctive song, a cleanly descending “wee-dee-dee.” [EBird]

Another bird we encountered, found only at a single hide despite visiting many others, initially appeared quite shy. However, after a few hours of brief appearances, it gradually became more comfortable and eventually stayed long enough for some great photos.

We chose this hide specifically for this bird and spotted it early in the morning. Afterward, we decided to move to another hide. The male arrived briefly before leaving, but luck was on our side as we caught the moment.

One of the standout birds at Baihualing, Yunnan, China is often seen as a highlight by both locals and visitors. Whenever someone spots or photographs one, it becomes big news in the village, quickly drawing bird enthusiasts and photographers to the area. This one shows up unexpectedly, as it did this time to take a drink, it captivates everyone around. It is a beautiful bird, with the female being particularly striking.

在中国云南百花岭，这种突出的鸟类常常被认为是当地居民和游客的亮点之一。每当有人发现或者拍摄到它时，就会在村里引起轰动，很快吸引大量鸟类爱好者和摄影爱好者前来。这次它出乎意料地出现，来喝水，吸引了周围所有人的目光。这是一种美丽的鸟，雌鸟尤其引人注目。

This is a fairly common bird in the area, but it moves too quickly to capture good shots. It often hides in dark and damp spots, making it a wonderfully active but elusive subject.

Tiny, stumpy bird of dense undergrowth. Male is dark slate-blue with broad white eyebrows that give him the appearance of a furious little old man. Female is warm pale brown all over. In areas of overlap with Chinese and Lesser Shortwings, look out for the all-dark lower belly, which is white in those species. Inhabits hill and montane forest, where it forages in dense undergrowth, frequently in proximity to streams. Song is composed of high thin whistles with short bursts of clicking chattering mixed in.

While everyone was focused on a few main target birds, one of our buddies, who could be considered a new birder, suddenly shouted, “Shortwing!” He was so proud of himself for identifying a bird on his own. Honestly, I think he should be even happier if he managed to spot a rare bird feeding instead!

Medium-sized owl with significant variation in plumage and vocalizations across its large range. Either gray or brown in coloration, with prominent pale ear tufts and pale face outlined in black. Fond of open wooded habitats from lowlands to foothills, often found roosting in temples, houses, and gardens, particularly in rural areas. Larger and more strongly tufted than both Oriental and Mountain Scops-Owls; both also lack the black facial border. Listen for this species’ incisive, short hoots, given at well-spaced intervals (often around 10 seconds). [Ebird]

It is quite a common bird, even in Malaysia. It was previously classified as the Sunda Scops-Owl but is now considered part of the Collared Scops-Owl. We often had one just outside our room, almost every day.

There is always debate about using torches or flashlights on birds, with no clear consensus on whether it is right or wrong for nature. However, there are certain actions we should never take or support, such as keeping them in cages or tying them up. It’s disheartening to know that many people still do such things, often just for the sake of a photograph.

它是一种相当常见的鸟类，即使在马来西亚也能见到。之前被归类为巽他领角鸮，现在被认为是领角鸮的一部分。我们几乎每天都能在房间外看到它。

Tiny brown flycatcher with a triangular white bib bordered with black. Gray head, frosty white brow, and ruddy wings and tail are not as eye-catching as the throat patch, but just as distinctive. Unobtrusive and retiring, generally keeping to the dense lower levels of foothill forests. Frequently forages in inaccessible gorges and thick streamside vegetation. Usually seen singly, occasionally in pairs. [Ebird]

The last lifer of the tour was an adorable flycatcher, easily recognizable by the distinct triangular white patch on its neck.

At almost every hide we visited, the owners assured us that this bird is always around. However, we didn’t spot it at any of those hides, except on day one when it briefly walked past. Hopefully, everyone on our team managed to capture a photo of this beautiful partridge.

Small songbird of forest edges, open scrub, and farmland, usually seen in pairs or small flocks. Male is silvery gray overall with black face and white supercilium, throat, belly, and wing patches. Female dull brown overall, with a rufous tail and faded version of the male’s head pattern. Bold but not very active, usually seen perching for long periods on posts and overhead wires. Song is bright and melodious, but often has a somewhat faltering quality, trailing off towards the end. Most common call is a harsh rising “bzeeet!”. [EBird]

During one of the quieter moments while waiting for a Scarlet Finch, a female caught my attention. As it flew around, I decided to enable Continuous Pre-record mode, just in case. Suddenly, it spread its wings, and I seized the perfect moment to press the shutter after see the action, capturing this stunning shot.

Adorable tiny bird that loosely resembles a minute tailless wren. Warm dark brown above with rufous overtones, and scaled below; pale-morph birds have white edgings to black “scales,” while dark-morph birds have edgings that are coffee-stain tan. Smaller Pygmy Cupwing lacks the tan spots speckling the crown and neck of Scaly-breasted. Scaly-breasted inhabits dark, damp areas in dense forest, often around boulders, streams, and ravines. Song is a jumbled series of high-pitched melodic warbles, notably more complex than the song of Pygmy Cupwing. [Ebird]

On our last day in Baihualing, we spotted two distinctly different tiny, tailless birds. At a distance of about 10-15 meters, I initially assumed they were the same Pygmy Cupwing. However, upon reviewing the captured photos, it was clear they were different species.

Knowing their behavior of spreading their wings when moving, I enabled Continuous Pre-record mode and pressed the shutter the moment the bird moved. Got it!

在白花岭的最后一天，我们发现了两只明显不同的小型无尾鸟。由于距离大约在10-15米，我起初以为它们是同一种小鳞胸鹪鹛。然而，当查看拍摄的照片时，发现它们明显是不同的物种。

A common inhabitant of lowland and foothill tropical forests, where it sings brightly but often unseen from the canopy; listen for its repeated 3- or 4-syllabled ‘took-o-rrook!’ Tends to be more common in edge areas and degraded forests than other barbets. Bright green with a blue throat, a red-and-yellow crown, and a heavy, pale-based bill. Birds at the northern and western parts of this species’ range have a black brow, while southern birds don’t. A vibrant bird with a predominantly blue head, commonly found in BaiHuaLing, Yunnan, China. Its calls are nearly constant throughout the area, and it occasionally comes down to forage for food and water.

18. Slender-billed Scimitar-Babbler, 剑嘴鹛, 細嘴鉤嘴鶥, Pomatorhinus superciliaris, ハシナガチメドリ

Possibly the species to which the moniker of “scimitar-babbler” attaches most fittingly, as this inhabitant of high-altitude evergreen forests has a bill shaped like a curved sword. Predominantly orange-brown, with a gray head and jagged white eyebrow. Easily identified, even if seen only in silhouette; no other babbler in its range has such a long, sharply curved bill. Moves through the lower levels of the forest in large, noisy flocks. [ebird]

This bird has an oddly thin and curved beak, giving it a truly unique appearance. Though active, it’s not hard to spot here. At many bird hides, it readily comes out to grab food before retreating, making it relatively easy to see and photograph.

Birding in Yunnan, China last December was incredibly easy. We simply chose a hide, settled in, and waited—and sure enough, the birds came! In fact, there were so many, it was just a matter of picking which ones to photograph. We specifically came to this hide hoping to see the woodpecker, but we were also treated to a few star species like the Great Barbet, Slender-billed Scimitar-Babbler, and more.

去年十二月在中国云南观鸟非常轻松。我们只需要选一个拍鸟棚，坐下来静静等待——果然，鸟儿纷纷出现！鸟的数量之多，让我们只需挑选想拍的目标。我们专程来到这个棚子是为了拍那只啄木鸟，但同时也幸运地见到了几种明星鸟类，比如大拟啄木鸟、剑嘴鹛等。

This was a family holiday, so there wasn’t much birding planned. Still, I carried a wide-angle lens and the RF 100–500mm with me. In winter, there are plenty of gulls around, especially near the lake. One morning, I came across a group of gulls feeding very close by. I spent a few quick moments capturing this beautiful bird at close range.

这是一次家庭假期，并没有安排太多观鸟活动，但我还是随身带着广角镜头和 RF 100–500。冬季时，湖区附近有不少海鸥活动。一天早上，我遇到一群正在近距离觅食的海鸥，便抓紧时间，快速拍下了这只美丽的鸟。

It was a freezing morning at around –6°C. We went to Napa Lake mainly to revisit some good memories from years ago. After waiting for a beautiful sunrise, I was almost ready to return to the car when I suddenly heard a bird calling very close by. The bird stayed low to the ground, barely moving—likely due to the cold—with ice clearly visible around it.

I managed to capture some close shots, and that moment became the happiest highlight of this casual, relaxing trip to Yunnan.

清晨气温低至约零下 6°C。这次只是来到纳帕海，重温多年前到访时的美好回忆。看完日出后，正准备返回车上时，突然听到附近传来鸟叫声。那只鸟几乎贴近地面，一动不动，应该是因为天气太冷，周围还能看到结冰的痕迹。

能够近距离拍到它，成了这趟云南轻松休闲之旅中最开心、最难忘的时刻。

This bird is very common here in Yunnan—you can easily see it up close around streams, rivers, and lakes. I’m here on a family holiday, enjoying a relaxed time with coffee and loved ones, casually watching the birds nearby. Suddenly, this bird started showing some action. My camera didn’t miss the moment—I captured everything and compiled the shots into this MP4.

这种鸟在云南非常常见，在溪流、河流和湖泊附近都能近距离看到。我这次是家庭度假，悠闲地喝着咖啡、陪伴家人，随意观察身边的鸟类。突然，这只鸟开始有精彩的动作，我的相机没有错过任何瞬间，拍下了所有画面，并整理成了这个 MP4。

We decided to walk along the boardwalk instead of taking a boat ride. While strolling, this bird came surprisingly close to us. I quickly opened my bag, grabbed the Canon RF100–500, and managed to capture this cute little bird.

我们决定不坐船，改走木栈道。一路走着，这只鸟竟然离我们非常近。我立刻打开包，拿出 Canon RF100–500，成功拍下了这只可爱的鸟。

Surprised that I haven’t shared this beautiful yet very common bird before. I’ve photographed it in many places—Malaysia (Kuala Gula, Kota Kinabalu), South Africa, Thailand, Kenya, and China.

This time was special, as it was the closest encounter so far. The bird was feeding right outside our hotel and wasn’t bothered at all, even when we got quite close.

有点惊讶自己之前竟然没分享过这只既美丽又常见的鸟。我在很多地方都拍过它——马来西亚（瓜拉古拉、哥打京那巴鲁）、南非、泰国、肯尼亚和中国。

不过这一次真的很特别，这是我拍过距离最近的一次。它就在我们酒店外觅食，即使我们靠得很近，也完全不受影响。

This bird was surprisingly tame at Potatso National Park. It even hopped along the boardwalk like a little tour guide leading us on our walk. Many of them were feeding in the trees too, and honestly, I much prefer this pose compared to the ones “walking” on the boardwalk.

在普达措国家公园，这种鸟对人非常友善。它甚至在栈道上跳来跳去，像个小导游一样带着我们走。不过也有很多在树上觅食的，说实话，我更喜欢这种姿态，而不是在栈道上“散步”的样子。

The weather today is exceptional. The deep blue of the sky is reflecting perfectly on the lake, creating a beautiful color contrast with this immature Brown-headed Gull. However, it is disappointing to see so many people feeding the birds various kinds of human food. While people likely have good intentions, but feeding with wrong food can be affect the bird health

今天天气极好。湛蓝的天空倒映在湖面上，与这只棕头鸥幼鸟形成了极美的色彩对比。然而，令人遗憾的是，现场有很多人在用各种人类食物投喂鸟类。虽然大家的出发点可能是好的，但喂它们人类食物可能会危害它们的健康。

Red-breasted Partridge “North East (Sabah) vs Center (Sarawak)”

I had recently got very good view of Red-breasted Partridge (or Bornean Partridge) from center of Borneo island , which @Sarawak . It make me feel I should share this , so we can see the different .

Red-breasted Partridge, Arborophila hyperythra (Sarawak , center of Borneo)

At center of Borneo (Sarawak) all the birds seen with white or light grey supercilium, brighter throat, chin …. which never seen at Kinabalu National Park, Crocker Range.

Quick CANON EOS 90D 4k simple record | liewwk Nature

I always love to record wildlife in better video quality since CANON 5dm2

one of the reason I am quite interest on CANON EOS 90D is the capability of record 4k video

I did quick record with below condition

– handheld

– low light , while shooting picture ISO1250, 1/20, F5

– no edit , just trim and uploaded full size to Yoututbe

– internal Mic

*** I move the camera toward the flower into center … the camera auto get the bird focus and the AF point show it focus or trying focus on the “moving object” – bird

– finally back from a stress tour, leading 10 (2 cannot make it ) for 3 special monotypic families, we spend 2.5 days for this.. Everyone seem tired but still patient for the process of waiting and looking (thanks for the trust) finally we have very good view of this Borneo endemic for ~2-3 minutes low … lucky group also managed to record 200+ birds (only lowland forest and some amazing species)

But always failed, not even more than 3s so far .. finally this time I got ~10s even it is not really focus and good view but this is how the bird behave – hope one day can have better video … – 这鸟总是不停的动，几乎不停多过1-2秒。还要主要在地上，试了好几年还是没办法拍多过3秒的视频。还是觉得，不是这么容易。这次拍到好几秒它怎么动。虽然，没很好对焦。可是先加减看看。
