红喉姬鹟（学名：Ficedula parva）小型鸟类，体长11~13厘米。雄鸟上体灰黄褐色，眼先、眼周白色，尾上覆羽和中央尾羽黑褐色，外侧尾羽褐色，基部白色。颏、喉繁殖期间橙红色，胸淡灰色，其余下体白色，非繁殖期颏、喉变为白色。雌鸟颏、喉白色，胸沾棕，其余同雄鸟。

栖于林缘及河流两岸的较小树上。有险情时冲至隐蔽处。尾展开显露基部的白色。遇警时发出粗糙的trrrt声、静静的tic声及粗哑的tzit声。

32. Dayak Blue Flycatcher, 山蓝仙鹟, 山藍仙鶲, Cyornis montanus, SAMBAR-BIRU BUKIT TIMUR

A medium-sized flycatcher with strikingly different male and female plumages. Male is beautifully colored, with deep blue upperparts, mostly orange underparts, and a white belly. Female is much duller, with a grayish head, gray-brown wings, a rufous tail, and rufous underparts. Scarce and local in the understory of hill forest. Song is jumble of melodious warbling and whistling notes. The calls are loud “chek” or “sit” notes, and are often mixed into the song. Similar to Bornean Blue Flycatcher, but darker, especially on the belly (in both sexes) and back (in the male). Also similar to Sunda Blue Flycatcher, but darker overall and shorter-billed. Dayak Blue Flycatcher is further distinguished by the less extensive black chin patch of the male and the rufous rather than blue tail of the female. (Ebird)

Tiny brown flycatcher with a triangular white bib bordered with black. Gray head, frosty white brow, and ruddy wings and tail are not as eye-catching as the throat patch, but just as distinctive. Unobtrusive and retiring, generally keeping to the dense lower levels of foothill forests. Frequently forages in inaccessible gorges and thick streamside vegetation. Usually seen singly, occasionally in pairs. [Ebird]

小型棕色鹟类，喉部有一个三角形的白色领结，周围勾勒着黑色边缘。灰色的头部、霜白色的眉纹以及红棕色的翅膀和尾巴虽然不如喉部斑块引人注目，但同样具有辨识度。性格低调且隐秘，通常活动于丘陵森林的浓密下层。经常在难以接近的峡谷和茂密的溪流旁植被中觅食。通常单独活动，偶尔成对出现。

Nectariniidae series: Spiderhunter | 太阳鸟科: 捕蛛鸟 | liewwk Nature – 10 [update 20250327]

The spiderhunters are birds of the genus Arachnothera, part of the sunbird family Nectariniidae.
The genus contains eleven species found in the forests of south and
southeastern Asia. They are large representatives of the sunbird family,
with drab plumage and long strongly curved bills. They feed on both
nectar and a range of small arthropods.

It was a quick visit to check on the flowers while meeting a few friends. Within an hour, the bird appeared twice, giving me the perfect chance to capture its flight using the R1 Continuous Pre-record mode. It worked perfectly!

Over the years, by understanding what the bird feeds on, it has gone from being difficult to spot to becoming a fairly common sight today.

It’s not very common to spot this bird here at Gunung Alab, but we heard its call while waiting for another target. Not that long, we saw it perched nearby! Yet another great sighting.

A small songbird with a long downcurved bill. Male is blackish with iridescent areas: crown glossed greenish or blue, and shoulders, rump, and tail glossed with blue. Female is nondescript, with a grayish head, white throat, olive upperparts, and yellowish underparts over much of range. In the south Moluccas and Aru islands, underparts are grayish. Breeding male is unmistakable: bright green with a long tail. Non-breeding male is duller but usually still shows some iridescent green and an elongated tail. Female is a big, dull sunbird with a long bill. Found in fynbos, moorland, grassland, scrub, and exotic tree plantations. Restricted to high elevations except in South Africa, where it occurs down to sea level. Song consists of “tyep” notes and emphatic rattles. Female similar to female Bronze Sunbird but larger, duller below, and with a fainter eyebrow. [Ebird]

During our first few days near Sani Pass, this was one bird that caught our attention every time we saw it. Its bright metallic green plumage and long tail were mesmerizing (we even saw it displaying to attract a female). Among the many sunbirds we encountered, this one truly stood out as exceptionally beautiful.

– very lucky moment while everyone just got the eye level of Trogon, this bird just not far from the Trogon. But I am not happy with some foreign photographers with us… we found the Trogon and stand at best position for the view but another group of Photographers lead by other Guide just stand infront of us when they saw us looking at the bushes … and I actually told them they blocking us .. but they just ignore us !!!!! please be polite and considerate ..

Not sure what happened—there’s been so much rain, and this season, the birds don’t seem very active at all. But luckily, this morning, we got our three targets in the same location, including this lovely broadbill, though it was perched high and remained quiet.

– previous both Whitehead’s Trio, we ticked it pretty simple. This one bit tricky where we saw it fly and perch (1-2 persons saw it but no good view). And one evening, I decided to make a bet to wait this bird at either location we normally found it. It is lucky picked, saw the bird stay for more than 20 minutes for good view, pictures and videos

– 3只神山“白头”宝，咬鹃与捕蛛鸟都很容易拿下。就这一只，见了好几次都是飞来飞去。在最后一个下午，我决定来赌一把选2个我们下午较容易见到他的点选一。非常幸运，我们赌对了。在530左右，它叫了一会就飞了出来让我们看，拍的很好。

– one of the main reason I like be at Paya Maga (beside the Black Oriole). This bird is reasonable easy to “heard” and “seen” with many other good birds too

– when we had last hour and glad everyone never gave up and spent last moment to hike up to a small mountain after rain and “Bingo” after everyone see the Eyebrowed Wren-Babbler. Good view and long enough for almost everyone a good view.

– 到这山里头最主要鸟之一。这鸟非常稀有，在这听到不难，看到它飞也不难。

– 非常幸运，第2天的最后一个小时。在下了一场大雨后，大家还不放弃。爬上了一个小山坡。让每个人看的很好。

Black wings show a patch of orange. Female is duller than male, with light gray upperparts, cheeks and crown; dark gray wings; white throat; and light yellow underparts. Both males and females show an orange rump. Usually seen in small flocks, frequently uttering high-pitched “swee swee” call as they continuously move around feeding on insects, sometimes catching them mid-air like flycatchers. Inhabits various forested habitats, especially thorny jungles, scrub patches, and open dry forest. [Ebird]

The Sultan Tit (Melanochlora sultanea) is a large songbird (about 17 cm long) with a yellow crest, dark bill,
black upperparts plumage and yellow underparts. The sexes are similar.
The female has greenish black upperparts and yellowish throat. The young
bird is duller than the adult and has a shorter crest. It is the only
member of the monotypic genus Melanochlora, which is fairly distinct from the Parus tits with the nearest relative being the monotypic Sylviparus.^[5]

– a beautiful bird found at Mountain Chiang Mai, Thailand

黄颊山雀（学名：Parus spilonotus）小型鸟类，体长12~14厘米。头顶和羽冠黑色，前额、眼先、头侧和枕鲜黄色，眼后有一黑纹。上背黄绿色、羽缘黑色，下背绿灰色（西藏亚种），或上背黑色而具蓝灰色轴纹，下背蓝灰色（华南亚种）。颏、喉、胸黑色并沿腹中部延伸至尾下覆羽，形成一条宽阔的黑色纵带，纵带两侧为黄绿色（西藏亚种）或蓝灰色（华南亚种）。

相似种绿背山雀头无羽冠，脸白色；黄腹山雀脸白色，下体无黑色纵带。区别甚明显，野外不难识别。

常见于中国西藏南部及云南极西部（指名亚种）和南方省份（华南亚种）的开阔林，高可至海拔2400米。

Size distinguishes this species from other niltavas; coloration is quite similar to Large Niltava, which is double the size. Male Small Niltava is bright blue with the brightest patches on the shoulder and forehead. Female is brown with a white eyering and a rufous tail and wingtips. Forages in the lower and middle levels of hilly and montane forests, usually singly. Listen for its distinctive song, a cleanly descending “wee-dee-dee.” [EBird]

体型将该物种与其他仙鹟区分开来；其颜色与大型仙鹟非常相似，但体型只有后者的一半。雄性小仙鹟呈亮蓝色，肩部和前额的亮色斑块最为显眼。雌性则为棕色，具有白色眼圈以及棕红色的尾巴和翼尖。通常单独在丘陵和山地森林的中下层觅食。其独特的鸣声是清晰下滑的“wee-dee-dee”。

Another bird we encountered, found only at a single hide despite visiting many others, initially appeared quite shy. However, after a few hours of brief appearances, it gradually became more comfortable and eventually stayed long enough for some great photos.

– a bird that told me weeks to just have few look, few seconds for picture ….

– walk non stop inside canopy

– when it call, the throat “blue” appear

– 3+1 locations, multiple visits ……

– VERY SHY bird ….

Just another moment captured with this beautiful yet shy bird. I’m accustomed to situations where people alter the environment—making it brighter and more open—just for the sake of photos, which can affect the bird’s natural behavior. However, that doesn’t diminish my happiness, especially with my birding buddy back in action after finally deciding to get his 400mm F2.8 following a slowdown in birding. Exciting times ahead, as I have more personal birding trips coming up soon!

又一次捕捉到这只美丽而害羞的鸟儿。

我已经习惯了有人为了拍照而改变环境——让它更明亮、更开阔——从而影响鸟类的自然行为。

但这并不会影响我的快乐，尤其是我的观鸟伙伴终于决定入手 400mm F2.8 镜头，在观鸟节奏放缓后再次回归。

– it is a tough day, been assign with a 1.5 days (actually just one day for Rail-babbler as main target). After meet Hermina & Shannon, they really keen to see the Rail-babbler… so we make a early move and have a long coffee stop before we go into forest due to some early morning rain. Immediate arrive the area, after got 1 frogmouth calling, and sight the Banded Woodpecker. I heard the Rail-babbler calling, immediate trying to track it down and we spit the bird less than 10 minutes … ring my buddy and hope he is happy man now ..

– 接受了一项几乎是不可能任务，1天时间看白眉长颈鸫。与两名客人交谈后，虽然她们都没来过马来西亚。可是还是觉得要用时间看这目标鸟。一大早下了场小雨，我们吃了进林子。到了没太久，竟然还听到蟆口鸱叫。。。虽然找了一会还是放弃，因为听到白眉长颈鸫叫。找了10多分钟，竟然找到了。。。。。幸运啊

– it is a long plan request from “friend”, a bird family need Rail-Babbler… last for him and another Jay-shrike for better view .. and we make this happen within 2 days while we actually plan it for 5 days … day1 arrive afternoon nothing much but still got Finsch’s Bulbul & Scarlet-breasted Flowerpeckeras new birds and with many woodpeckers with good view … follow by lunch and a quite bored afternoon … but still able to have good view of Crested Jayshrike and ~10m close Rail-babbler without any sight …Day2 morning nothing much even with some good view but no Rail-babbler close heard .. raining afternoon after lunch even still rain.. as Bill seem worry we missed the bird just decided walk into forest with raining gear … not far after we walk I heard “to to to” real close and ask every one backward … YES me and Bill saw the bird circling and walk across the trail but Karen & Miki missed … hmmmmmm .. so we decided go to a slight open space to wit for the bird…. not that long the bird came into view and making “balloon” call show for us more than 2 minutes .. smile for everyone …

– 去年有位朋友的介绍下，他们要求“我”带他们（其中一位）看完最后一只鸟科类。。。他已80岁希望可以看完。。加上某种原因，我决定帮这个忙。等了一年，终于到了。。。很快第一天我们到中午时分，没什么特别可是。都拿下芬氏冠鹎（新鸟种）加蛮多啄木鸟（很低）。。吃完饭后，虽然拿下不少鸟。加上冠鸦（之前他只看到一秒，其他人的新鸟种）。

第二天，早上虽然也不少鸟。可是目标鸟几乎没声音。吃饭时Bill 开始担心，虽然下雨他特别忧心。我也决定还是到森林等。到时还是小雨，决定进去走走。大家带着雨伞，雨衣进去。没很远，大家在看什么什么鹎时。我听到”它“叫了。。。很近。就叫大家后退。。。。没2分钟就看到它在步道旁走了2圈。还过了步道，可是2位朋友没看到。。。hmmmmmm..我们早到附近一个空荡的第在哪等待。。也没很久“它”尽然上小树桩上脚了好几分钟。天啊。当然大家都笑了。我帮了一位老人完了他的心愿。（他来了这8-9次）

– finally finish a long tour, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo & extension to South P Malaysia. We had this very special target bird twice all of us saw the bird well and long. We had this bird walking across the trail after 2-3 hours search through the forest.

A bulky black shrike with scattered white patches on the shoulders and wings and a very long, floppy tail. The sexes have differently colored flanks: females white, males black. Small groups of 3 to 10 sit upright on perches 1 to 5 meters high in grassy open savanna and sparse broadleaf woodland. Perch-and-wait predators, they drop onto insect and small vertebrate prey, and often move locally into recently burned areas to forage. The species gives a shrill starling- or parrot-like “pleeee-eouuu,” often produced by more than one bird at once, and also gives harsh grating cries. [Ebird]

Fairly common throughout Kruger National Park, this bird is typically seen moving in groups. Its black-and-white plumage and long tail make it unmistakable. I was fortunate to witness a partridge attempting to scare it off and managed to capture a shot of it flying away.

这种鸟在克鲁格国家公园相当常见，通常成群活动。它的黑白羽毛和长尾巴使其极具辨识度。我有幸目睹一只鹧鸪试图将它赶走，并成功拍下了它飞离的瞬间。

It was quite a stressful morning as we missed the Trogon twice, and the male Black-sided Flowerpecker didn’t show up. However, this bird flew close, giving me a chance to capture it in flight. What a beautiful sight!

It’s a noisy bird, but I always enjoy seeing it. It gives us great opportunities for photography, even though it’s just a plain black bird and not particularly striking. Its unique actions—like calling while moving its head up and down—make for special photo moments.

During a brief visit to RDC, we were scanning for birds to photograph when this one approached, making a noisy call. Suddenly, it flew toward us. Without hesitation, I pressed the shutter. Despite the low light in the forest and the high ISO, it still tracked well.
