Years ago (probably more than 10 years back), this Mangrove Pitta spot was also known for a pair of woodpeckers that often came down to feed. Today, while checking on the Mangrove Pitta, the main target didn’t show up—but instead, a pair of Laced Woodpeckers dropped in and entertained us. A very nice bonus encounter.
很多年前（可能已经超过10年），这个红树林八色鸫的地点，常有一对同种啄木鸟下来觅食。今天在寻找红树林八色鸫时，主角没有现身，却迎来了一对花纹啄木鸟来“客串演出”，也算是一次很棒的意外收获。

It’s a hectic day—I’m traveling from Borneo back to Kuala Lumpur, and within six hours, I have to catch a flight to Indonesia for another exciting trip. Unfortunately, my own mistake made the schedule quite chaotic.
Despite that, it was an incredible photography tour with great luck spotting woodpeckers. One of them even came down close and low, giving us a perfect opportunity for some great shots.

一种奇特且独特的啄木鸟科成员。无论处于何种羽色阶段，其喉部始终呈赤褐色，但幼鸟的颜色较淡。其腹部颜色因地理位置而异：埃塞俄比亚的个体腹部完全为赤褐色，而部分种群的喉部带有横斑。飞行方式呈波浪状，与典型的啄木鸟相似。主要栖息于农耕区、花园、林地、森林边缘以及零星分布树木的草原地带，通常成对活动。鸣叫声为一连串响亮清脆的“kwee”音。与欧亚拟啄木鸟相似，但其赤褐色喉部使其易于区分。

A very common and tiny woodpecker. It showed up almost immediately on our first day after a long journey. Its rufous neck makes it unmistakable.

Birding in Yunnan, China last December was incredibly easy. We simply chose a hide, settled in, and waited—and sure enough, the birds came! In fact, there were so many, it was just a matter of picking which ones to photograph. We specifically came to this hide hoping to see the woodpecker, but we were also treated to a few star species like the Great Barbet, Slender-billed Scimitar-Babbler, and more.
去年十二月在中国云南观鸟非常轻松。我们只需要选一个拍鸟棚，坐下来静静等待——果然，鸟儿纷纷出现！鸟的数量之多，让我们只需挑选想拍的目标。我们专程来到这个棚子是为了拍那只啄木鸟，但同时也幸运地见到了几种明星鸟类，比如大拟啄木鸟、剑嘴鹛等。
